He was born in 1953 in Ontario, Ore., to Masae (Kobayashi) Nakamura and Theodore Terue Nakamura; Ted was a teacher at Lake Grove Elementary School, Lake Oswego, Ore., for 25 years; survived by his wife, Peggy; and sisters Sheryl Isobe and Janet Roberts.

Born in Hilo, HI; he is an Army veteran and worked as a medical technologist and a plant tissue culturist; he was a JACL chapter president and was involved in writing two books as a historian for the local Japanese American community; survived by wife Doris; son Dean (Staci); grandchildren, Elias, James and Caitlyn.

Nakashima, Richard Yasuyuki "Yas”, 92

WWII 442nd RCT veteran and a retired Pearl Harbor Public Works Center maintenance supervisor. Survived by wife Gladys Y., son David Y., daughter Christine A. 
Nakashima-Heise and two grandchildren.

Namba, Harry Tetsu, 95

Ontario, OR, Sept. 18, 2011

Harry was interned in Pinedale, CA and later moved to Tule Lake; during WWII handled ammunition at the Nebraska Army Depot; he married Yaeko Fujita in 1944; they were married for over 66 years; survived by his wife, Yaeko; son, Ronald (Gloria); daughter Rosanne (Mark); survived by brother Frank (Michiko) Namba; many nieces and nephews; 4 gc.

His father was an immigrant Japanese fisherman and his mother a picture bride from Japan. Katsuyoshi attended Hawaii’s McKinley High School; he was an interpreter during World War II in the MIS; preceded in death by his first wife, Rosalie and son, Arn; he is survived by his wife of 14 years, Kim; daughter, Lyn; son, Ken; sister Masayo Fujikami; brother-in-law, Howard Furuya.

Okawa, Hiroshi “George”, 97

Hiroshi was the son of Itaro and Sueo Okawa; he had a barbershop in Portland until he was drafted into the Army in 1942; he opened and operated his own shop in Ontario, the Eastside Barbershop, until he retired in 2000; survived by his wife, Yukiko of 52 years; his daughters, Grace Thompson and her husband, Gary, of Klamath Falls, Ore.; and Esther Okawa, of Seattle, Wash.; as well as many nieces and nephews in both the U.S. and Japan.
