Outreach to congressmembers to support HR 10131 urged.
By P.C. Staff
The Japanese American Citizens League issued a National Action Alert today urging people to contact their congressional representatives to persuade them to support HR 10131, the National Archives Protection Act.
The bill was written in response to the National Archives and Records Administration’s June 23 announcement that it would shutter and move to elsewhere the contents stored at its facilities in Chicago and San Francisco/San Bruno and Seattle.
The bill, which was introduced by Rep. Kevin Mullin (D–Calif.) and aims to halt NARA’s plan, thus far has 11 co-sponsors. Its objective is to amend Title 44 of the United States code and preclude the Archivist from blocking public access to an archive facility or commence rehabilitation to a facility if doing so would require relocation of stored records for more than six months.
